In the UK, Apple admitted the problem and are replacing any defective units free of charge.
I guess like any mobile phone, if you don't want the screen scratched, buy a case, or some clingfilm.

Hell I get along fine with my IPOD. Same as Bill find the set up etc ok. At the end of the day go with what suits you best I guess. As for scratches etc - I bought myself some ipod body armour - excellent it is too as 2 days after I got it my dog knocked the ipod out of my hands. Didn't even scratch the armour
